Positive correlation means the pairs’ daily percentage returns tended to move in the same direction during the selected period. Negative correlation means they tended to move in opposite directions. A value near zero indicates little linear relationship in the observed returns.
Correlation can change with market conditions, the selected period, and the observations available. It describes a historical relationship and should not be treated as permanent.
How forex pair correlation is calculated
For each supported currency pair, the tool sorts daily closing prices by date and calculates the percentage return from one trading day to the next. It aligns the return series by shared dates and calculates Pearson’s correlation coefficient over the selected number of trading observations. Weekend gaps are naturally excluded; missing observations are never filled with invented prices.
Correlation ranges from −1.00 to +1.00. Stronger absolute values indicate a stronger linear relationship over the chosen sample. The matrix is calculated server-side from stored daily OHLC data and refreshed by the scheduled data process.
Correlation data is provided for informational and analytical purposes only. Historical correlation does not guarantee future market behavior and should not be considered financial advice.
Forex correlation FAQs
What are forex correlation pairs?
Forex correlation pairs are currency pairs whose historical returns show a measurable tendency to move together or in opposite directions over a chosen period.
Which forex pairs are highly correlated?
Relationships depend on the period and market conditions. Use the live positive ranking above to see the strongest calculated relationships in the available data.
Which forex pairs have negative correlation?
Pairs with negative correlation have tended to post returns in opposite directions in the selected sample. The live negative ranking shows current calculated examples.
How is forex pair correlation calculated?
This tool calculates Pearson correlation from aligned daily percentage returns, rather than comparing raw price levels.
Does forex correlation stay constant?
No. Correlation changes over time as economic conditions, monetary policy, volatility, and market positioning change.
What is a good timeframe for forex correlation?
Shorter periods respond more quickly but use fewer observations; longer periods cover more history but may smooth recent changes. Compare periods in context rather than treating one as universally best.
